August 16, 2005 - Our August meeting was held at the home of Marianne Drabek and featured
a presentation on scrapbooking by Creative Memories consultant Gaylene Doerr. Gaylene showed us how to organize
and protect the stories we want to save about our lives so that they will be properly preserved for future enjoyment.
She demonstrated a number of scrapbook ideas using cropping tools, choosing different combinations of papers, stickers, and
die cut shapes.
Gaylene stressed the importance of using photosafe paper and products for albums. The pages
of the album should be acid-free (so as not to damage your photos), lignin-free (to maintain the original page color) and
buffered (to prevent memorabilia acid from damaging photos). Pens for journaling should be acid-free with pigment-based
ink to prevent bleeding. Adhesives should be acid-free, lignin-free, and permanent (rubber cement, magnetic albums,
and scotch tape are all "No Nos!").
We learned that, with the right materials and a bit of imagination, anyone can create practical,
beautiful albums that will survive for many generations. For more information, contact Gaylene Doerr at 281-350-6159
or via email at gaylene@houston.rr.com.

HURRICANE KATRINA
The unprecedented devastation and widespread impact of Hurricane Katrina continues
to unfold as relief and recovery efforts for this natural disaster progress. The
WHWTCSET has contributed $1,100 to aid animal relief efforts, and we are proud of the many club members who have given
their time, supplies, and monetary donations to assist both animal and human relief efforts.

September 20, 2005 - Kay McGuire, DVM, hosted our September
meeting, which was held at the home of Sandy and Tom McDonough. Our guest speaker was Lisa Ducher, the Head
Technician at Suburbia North Animal Hospital. Lisa shared her considerable knowledge and experience in the area of dental
care and dental products, and is pictured above demonstrating the proper brushing technique on Brodie.
Lisa recommends brushing your dog's teeth once a day after the evening meal. Finger
brushes may be used with a doggie toothpaste (do NOT use human toothpaste). Lisa recommends C.E.T. products. Following
a teeth cleaning at the vet's office, regular brushing (ideally in conjunction with a C.E.T. oral hygiene rinse) and C.E.T.
chews will help keep your dog in tip top teeth and prolong the time between professional cleanings.
