WESTIE FUN DAY
October 27, 2007 - Mary and Jim Cross went all out to create a spectacular setting for our annual Westie "Howl-O-Ween" Fun Day event.  Upon arrival, everyone received a free lead and collar for their Westie.  Jim and Mary served barbeque beef and chicken with sides, and everyone brought something (chips, dips, salads, desserts).  We had perfect weather, plenty of food, and Westies everywhere!  Many prizes were won by talented Westies who competed in the water relay race, bobbing for weenies, the musical sit contest, and our annual costume contest!  Everyone enjoyed all of the Westie activities, but the highlight of the day was seeing all of our Westies dressed in their Howl-O-Ween costumes. It truly was a fun day for all.  Check out the sneak preview photos below and then click on the photo link at the top of the page to see more.

THE WESTIE IN ART AND PHOTOGRAPHY
November 20, 2007 - Our November meeting was held at the home of Charles and Paula Cohen with Pat Christie as co-host.  The new slate of officers and board members was elected for the term from December 2007 to December 2008 (see the Officers/Board page).  Our special guest was Suzanne Snyder, a professional photographer for "Pets and Their People."  Suzanne gave us some pointers on taking photographs of pets, especially puppies.  She likes to take photos at the owner's location so that the portrait is more meaningful.  Suzanne said that one of her rules is not to rush.  If you play with your pet for a while, it will be more relaxed and at ease for photos.  When taking photos indoors, be sure to have lights on and drapes open (keep the light behind you).  Outside photos in natural light is best, but avoid direct sunlight (keep the sun to your back).  Suzanne suggested getting on your pet's level, and shoot in close for head shots.  Sometimes a treat or a squeaky toy will work to get their attention.  For more information, please visit Suzanne's website at www.marmaladephoto.com or contact her at Post Office Box 31, Humble, Texas 77347-0031 (713-598-7789).
